In this week’s episode we bring you a special segment recorded at the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) Preparedness Summit. While at the Summit, Disaster Podcast hosts Jamie Davis, the Podmedic and Sam Bradley got the chance to cover several important disaster response topics.
This episode features Sam’s chat with three HAM Radio operators who are part of the volunteer HAM radio network that crisscrosses the country with their radios and often provide the first communications out after a disaster situation when other communications systems have failed. They talk with Sam about how they test the system regularly and maintain battery capability to communicate even in the most austere conditions so that communities won’t be cut off during their times of greatest need.
Again, a special thank-you to Paragon Medical Education Group for their continued support of this podcast as our partners in this endeavor to bring disaster medicine to you. Check out their page and educational resources that can help your system be more prepared for what happens in your area.
