Dr. Joe Holley joins us on the show this week to share some clinical information with the podcast. He starts off with an update on recent Paragon Medical Group training programs around the country. Then we shift gears into some information on epidemiology issues around the country.
We talk about a summer COVID surge ahead of the new vaccine batch due out in September with the new variants covered. Between some herd immunity in the community and keeping up to date with current vaccine boosters will help to keep people from serious illness and hospitalization or death.
Joe then mentions signs and symptoms of an increase in Leprosy cases of all things (also known as Hansen’s Disease). There have been outbreaks in the Southeastern U.S., particularly in Florida. For Hansen’s Disease, the treatment includes multi spectrum anti-bacterials to control and cure it.
There is also an increased prevalence of Dengue Fever in the same region, too. Dengue is a mosquito borne illness and local infections have been discovered in Florida, Texas, Arizona, and Hawaii for the U.S. Treatment. Mild symptoms of dengue can be confused with other illnesses that cause fever, aches and pains, or a rash. There is no specific treatment or cure. Management is mostly around treatment of symptoms.
This episode is hosted by Jamie Davis and Sam Bradley.
