In this special disaster response segment for the Disaster Podcast is a visit with Dr. Joe Holley who is freshly back from his deployment with the federal response to Hurricane Matthew’s hit on the east coast of the U.S. Hosts Jamie Davis, the Podmedic and Sam Bradley are joined by Kevin Reiter from WildSafety.com and BJ Schneider from XiphosBooks.net to join our discussion.
Dr. Joe spends the first part of this two-part episode talking about the initial staging of federal resources including himself and another Emergency Physician as part of the Incident Support Team (IST). The IST’s were placed in advanced staging locations early in the preparations for the Hurricane’s impact in order to direct federal resources to the locations with the greatest need. Joe was eventually staged further forward on the coast of North Carolina in order to oversee operations there for some of the 10 USAR teams sent to the southeastern U.S. in response to the Hurricane Matthew disaster.
