We’re talking wilderness medicine and correlations with disaster response medicine on this week’s show. Disaster Podcast hosts Jamie Davis, the Podmedic and Sam Bradley were joined by show regulars Dr. Joe Holley and paramedic Jim Logan from Paragon Medical Education Group to chat with Dr. Seth Hawkins a DMAT and Wilderness EMS doc from North Carolina. This is part 1 of this two-part interview segment episode.
Wilderness medicine is focused on care in austere wilderness settings where there are no nearby resources for care. Dr. Hawkins runs Hawk Ventures which supports a wide range of Wilderness EMS programs, including the flagship Carolina Wilderness EMS Externship program. Each program is personally run by Dr. Seth Collings Hawkins. Hawkins is one of only a few physicians in the United States to be double-boarded in both Emergency Medicine and EMS, and is the first physician ever named a Master Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine.
