Kyle kicks off with a look at the weather report in disaster situations including the recent New Orleans tornado situations the week previous to our recordings. BJ shares some more details of the EMS and other first responder actions in the aftermath of the tornados. Up to forty people were injured in the event but thankfully, no one was killed.
Moving on, we kick into our look at caring for attendees and athletes at special events like the Winter X-Games in Aspen, Colorado. These games present a series of events and situations that challenges the medical response team for injuries and medical situations for both athletes and spectators.
BJ brings in his experience with the medical management of the New Orleans Mardi Gras crowd. The date for Mardi Gras changes each year with the shifting dates of the Easter holiday. When the event happens earlier in the year, it’s cooler and fewer people attend. When the event happens later, it’s warmer and more people come to the event.
