Motivating and Coordinating Community Preparedness

community preparednessIn this episode of the Disaster Podcast, we address how community organizers can best promote disaster preparedness and community resiliency. This episode’s topic comes in response to an email from listener Andrew who asks us:

“I was wondering if you would entertain the idea of an episode regarding Local Emergency Planning Committees (LEPCs), Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters (VOADs), or Community Organizations Active in Disasters (COADs). I’d be interested in hearing how smaller, rural, remote, communities or groups of small communities plan, respond, and recover from disasters from the perspective of NGOs. How do other areas tie in all the different NGOs and faith based orgs in the response and recovery process. I’d love to include preparedness but we struggle with getting families to prepare for disasters as it is. Faith based groups, businesses, civic groups all seem busy enough just staying afloat. It seems preparedness, while important, tends to take a back seat.”

Joining co-hosts Jamie Davis, the Podmedic and Sam Bradley on this episode are Dr. Joe Holley and Jim Logan from Paragon Medical Education Group. Also on the show again is our resident Disaster Meteorologist Kyle Nelson.
